The Intermediate agility class is designed for handler and dog teams who are actively competing, or preparing to compete, in agility trials. The format offers a structured, goal-oriented curriculum that supports continued skill development and prepares teams for success in the competition ring.
Class focus
- Honing obstacle performance for speed, accuracy and consistency
- Advancing handling techniques — proper execution of cues, obstacle versus handler focus, and obstacle independence
- Developing strategies for course analysis and efficient path execution
- Enhancing teamwork, timing and off-leash communication under distraction and trial-like conditions
- Building ring readiness through simulated competition exercises and coursework
- Preparing for competition through effective handling and strategy
Who should enroll
- Teams who have completed Advanced Beginners, and/or instructor approval
- Dogs should be competent on all agility obstacles, including contacts and 12 weave poles
- Dogs must be able to work independently off leash in a high-energy environment
- Handlers should have experience with basic handling maneuvers and course flow
Class structure
- Weekly sessions focused on specific skill themes and progressive sequences
- Opportunities for individualized coaching within a group setting
- Weekly homework required to reinforce learning
- Teams are re-evaluated at the end of each 16-week session to ensure the best class fit
Homework
Weekly homework is required in this class. Reinforcing each week's theme between sessions is what turns a skill practised once into one your dog can perform under trial pressure.
